Self-Awareness Inventories, Study Strategies & Organization Help
"A Goal without a plan is just a wish." ~Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Students are going through an amazing period of growth and development, cognitively, physically and socially, during their years in the Middle School. As they become increasingly autonomous and independent, they need to determine skills that help them to effectively manage their time and course loads. This page will be continually expanded and updated with tips, strategies, and articles to increase and improve the "tool kit" students use to be an effective learner.
The first step we'll take is to determine whether students have a Fixed or a Growth Mindset. Using a Mindset Quiz (self-assessment), students will analyze which mindset contributes to success in various aspects of life. Through articles and discussion, students will learn we all have a "fixed mindset" about our abilities in one area or another. There's always a way to improve from Fixed to a Growth mindset! This can be further supported by research that shows the brain can grow neural connections based on what areas we choose to focus our attention and effort. Students will learn how to Grow Their Intelligence:-)
We will then determine what type of learning style each student prefers.
This quick learning style assessment by Edutopia ( or this simpler one from Education Planner) offers some insight into a preferred learning style; it is not meant to rigidly define the student's learning needs.
